Job Description: Literacy Tutor
Position: Literacy Tutor
Location:Chicago, IL
Compensation: $30/hour
Schedule: Tuesday - Thursday, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Scope of Work:
Chicago Urban Ignite is seeking passionate and dedicated Literacy Tutors to implement project-based literacy group tutoring for K-8th grade students. Tutors will play a key role in fostering a love for reading and writing while enhancing essential literacy skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging and age-appropriate tutoring sessions aligned with developed lesson plans for various grade groups.
- Collaborate with the Chicago Urban Ignite team to tailor lessons to meet the specific needs of students.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
- Utilize provided educational materials, including books and writing supplies, to enhance learning experiences.
- Implement a rewards system to motivate students and recognize their achievements.
- Actively participate in a culminating literacy event to showcase student projects and engage the community.
- Communicate effectively with families to encourage involvement and support for their children’s literacy development.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with K-8th grade students, preferably in an educational or tutoring setting. - Strong understanding of literacy development and instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Passion for education and a commitment to student success.
Additional Information:
This is a contract position. Chicago Urban Ignite will provide all necessary materials and resources for the program. The organization will also support the recruitment of a diverse group of participants and ensure accessible learning spaces for tutoring sessions.
