Job Training

CDL Permit Preperation

The Commercial Learner’s Permit Workshop (CPL) offers a 5-day training program designed to help community residents ages 18 and older obtain a CDL permit. Participants receive comprehensive instruction on administrative codes, core knowledge, driving techniques, and maneuvers. The course includes a trip to the Secretary of State Office for permit testing. Note that there is an additional fee of approximately $60 paid directly to the Secretary of State.

Participants who attend all classes, pass in-class tests, and receive a positive instructor evaluation will have the opportunity to receive job placement services.

This workshop aligns with Chicago Urban Ignite’s mission to uplift disadvantaged residents by offering education and job placement to foster personal and professional success, thereby contributing to a resilient and empowered community.

Morrison Youth Literacy Initiative

We are honoring the legacy of Myrtle E. Morrison by fostering a love of reading among children in under-resourced neighborhoods in Chicago and supporting struggling readers through engaging incentives. We will visit neighborhoods across Chicago to distribute free books and prizes to children K-12th grade. Our focus is on areas where reading proficiency is significantly below the national average.

Each month, we will award a $50 prize, split between two winners ($25 each), to encourage participation and progress.

2024 Drawing Dates:

October 1st, November 1st, December 1st
